DIY Coconut Oil & Macadamia Nut Cleanser
This DIY beauty recipe was inspired from our 20th wedding celebration in Fiji last week, where I was given a homemade brown sugar and coconut oil body scrub to use in the open air shower - every week we will now be posting DIY beauty treatments and recipes. From masks and moisturisers to serums and scrubs all treatments will be made from the foods in your pantry, accompanied with gorgeous essential oils, guaranteed to nourish your face and body. To start us off, I’ll be posting †˜recipes’ from the amazing BodyWorks book I’ve been using for years, then following them up with our own tried and tested treatments. This week, as the weather in Sydney has cooled (well until today!) and autumn is officially here, the dry chill in the air can be taxing on the skin, drying it out and leaving it looking dull. To restore the moisture and glow in your skin try BodyWorks’ coconut and olive cleanser. For a real boost, follow up with the yoghurt and avocado nourishing mask. COCONUT AND MACADAMIA NUT CLEANSER INGREDIENTS: 45ml coconut oil 10g cocoa butter 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil 25ml macadamia oil (or sweet almond oil) 20 drops of an essential oil of your choice (citrus is gorgeous) HOW TO: Melt the coconut oil and cocoa butter together very gently in saucepan (be careful not to overheat), stir a little to mix them and allow to cool. Add the olive oil and macadamia oil and continue to mix. Cool a little then add your essential oil drops. Mix thoroughly put pour into a couple of small pots or jars because what you don’t use straight away you can refrigerate them for a long time. YOGHURT AND AVOCADO NOURISHING MASK: INGREDIENTS: 1 ripe avocado 1 ripe banana 3 tablespoons plain yoghurt ¼ teaspoon vitamin E oil 3 tablespoons aloe vera juice HOW TO: Mash the avocado and banana to form a paste. Add the yoghurt and vitamin E oil and mix well. To use, massage the mask into your skin. If you have a piece of guaze, soak it in the aloe-vera juice and place the gauze over the mask to infuse the ingredients. Leave the mask on for 10 to 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water and pat dry. Enjoy!
