How to Keep Cream Eye Colour in Place: Prep, Set, Refresh

In short: Start with a clean lid where skincare has fully absorbed, apply thin layers, let each layer set, and dust a little translucent powder over the top if your lids are oily. When the colour softens, blend it with your fingertip or add a light sweep.

Creamy, nourishing formulas feel beautiful on, but they behave differently from long-wear makeup. Depending on your lid shape, skin type and skincare, the colour may soften, move or settle into the natural folds of your lid. That's the nature of a formula built on botanical oils and plant waxes, not a fault. A few small habits make a big difference.

Why cream eye colour creases

Long-wear pencils use film formers and silicones to lock colour onto the skin (we explain how in this post). Our Luminous Eye Crayons don't. Instead, the oils and waxes stay soft on the skin, which is what makes them comfortable and easy to blend. Warmth, natural skin oils and the movement of your lid can nudge that soft colour into creases, especially on oily or hooded lids.

Step 1: Prep your lids

  • Apply skincare early and give it time to absorb before makeup.
  • Keep rich eye creams off the lid itself in the morning.
  • Gently blot your lids with a tissue to remove excess oil.
  • If your lids are oily, dust on a little translucent powder before applying colour.

Step 2: Apply thin layers

  • Use the side of the crayon with light pressure.
  • Build colour in thin layers rather than one heavy layer.
  • Blend with your fingertip, working the colour into an even veil.
  • Give each layer a moment to set before blinking hard or adding more.

Step 3: Set with powder (optional)

A light dusting of translucent setting powder over the top helps absorb oils and keep colour in place. We like a natural powder made with corn starch or bamboo. Tap off the excess and press it on gently so it doesn't dull the shimmer.

Step 4: Refresh during the day

If the colour softens or gathers in the crease, run your fingertip across your lid to redistribute it, then add a light sweep of colour if you'd like. Because the formula is so blendable, a touch-up takes seconds.

Tips for oily and hooded lids

  • Oily lids: powder before and after applying colour, and choose lighter, sheer layers.
  • Hooded lids: apply with your eyes open, looking straight ahead, so you can see where colour sits above the fold.
  • Deeper shades: keep them close to the lash line and blend upwards, rather than packing colour into the crease.

Caring for your eye crayon

Our crayons are intentionally soft and creamy, so they have a lower melting point than harder cosmetic pencils.

  • Store below 25°C, away from direct heat and sunlight. Avoid leaving them in a hot car or bag.
  • If the tip softens in the heat, let it return to room temperature or pop it in the fridge for a few minutes to firm up.
  • Sharpen with a sharpener designed for soft cosmetic crayons, using gentle turns.
  • Replace the lid after each use and use within 12 months of opening.

FAQs

Why is my eye crayon creasing?

Creamy formulas can settle into the natural folds of the lid, especially on oily or hooded lids, or if skincare hasn't fully absorbed. Thin layers, a light dusting of powder and a quick fingertip blend help.

My crayon tip broke when I sharpened it. What should I do?

The tip was probably too warm. Chill the crayon in the fridge for a few minutes, then sharpen gently with a sharpener made for soft cosmetic pencils.

Why does the lid feel tight the first time?

Our lids are made from 100% post-consumer recycled material and fit firmly when new. The first opening may need a little extra pressure, then it opens and closes more easily.
