Easy Eye Makeup for Mature Eyes

In short: For mature eyes, keep colour sheer and blended, choose a soft sheen over heavy sparkle, swap harsh black liner for a smudged taupe, brown or grey, and brighten the inner corner. Creamy eye crayons make this easy because they blend with your fingertips and don't cake on the skin.

As we get older, our lids can become finer, more crepey or a little hooded, and heavy powders or sharp lines can start to feel less flattering. The good news is that softer, simpler eye makeup often looks more beautiful. Here's how to get it right, using our Luminous Eye Crayons.

Before and after: Lük Beautifood Luminous Eye Crayons in Champagne, Olive and Mushroom
Champagne to highlight, Olive to define and Mushroom blended on the lid.

1. Keep layers thin

A sheer layer blended with your fingertip gives colour without settling into fine lines. Build slowly, letting each layer set before adding the next.

2. Choose soft sheen over sparkle

A gentle sheen reflects light softly and gives the lid a fresh, awake look. Pearl, Mushroom and Sorbet have a soft, pearlescent finish that suits most mature eyes. Champagne has more sparkle, so dab a little in the centre of the lid rather than sweeping it all over.

3. Soften your liner

A crisp black line can look harsh as lashes become finer. Try Truffle, Cocoa, Smoke or Olive instead, drawn close to the upper lashes and smudged with your fingertip. On the lower lash line, apply a little to the outer third only.

4. Work with hooded lids

Apply your colour with your eyes open, looking straight ahead into the mirror. Place a soft wash just above the natural fold so it stays visible when your eyes are open, and blend it upwards.

5. Brighten and lift

  • Dot Pearl in the inner corners to open up the eyes.
  • Smudge a little under the brow arch for a gentle lift.
  • Angle deeper colour slightly upwards at the outer corner instead of dragging it down.

6. Finish with mascara

A coat of mascara defines the lashes and frames the eyes. Lash Nourish Mascara pairs beautifully with your crayons.

A five-minute look for mature eyes

  1. Sweep Mushroom over the lid in a thin layer and blend with your fingertip.
  2. Line close to the upper lashes with Truffle and smudge upwards.
  3. Dot Pearl in the inner corners and under the brow arch.
  4. Let the colour set, then add a light dusting of translucent powder if your lids are oily.
  5. Finish with mascara.

FAQs

Is shimmer eyeshadow okay for mature eyes?

Yes. Choose a soft sheen or pearlescent finish over chunky glitter, and apply it in a thin layer. A soft sheen brightens the lid without drawing attention to texture.

What colour eyeliner is best for older eyes?

Softer shades such as taupe, soft brown, grey or khaki often look more natural than black. Try Truffle, Cocoa, Smoke or Olive, smudged along the lash line.

Will cream eyeshadow crease on crepey lids?

Any cream colour can settle into fine lines if applied too heavily. Keep layers thin, let them set, and set with a little translucent powder if needed.
