8 ways to detox

8 Easy Ways to Detox Your Body

Detox your body the natural way with these 8 easy steps that will have you glowing from the inside out.

1. Juice cleanse

Did you know that for most people, it takes almost 18 hours for your body to digest and eliminate one meal?! Give your body a break and naturally flush out toxins whilst also keeping your body energised and satisfied a 3 day pressed juice cleanse to feel lighter, brighter and GLOW today.

2. Sleep more

Sleep is when your body rebuilds and regenerates itself. Without adequate sleep, your immune system is compromised, it’s easier to gain weight and you lack energy.  Not getting the rest you need and taking care of yourself doesn’t allow your body to function optimally, which includes its ability to naturally cleanse itself.

3. Take a tech-tox

Did you know that Harvard Medical School scientists found that being on your laptop or mobile before bed can actually disrupt the body’s production of melatonin ? This  in turn negatively effects our quality of sleep. Try a technology detox to improve your sleep patterns and be more present in your day-to-day life. Start by turning off your phone and TV every night after 8pm and not turning it on until after your morning routine.

4. Sweat it out

We all know that regular exercise is essential to maintain a healthy body but it is also an effective way of naturally cleansing the body through sweating.  Not only that, it also aids with blood circulation and digestion.

5. Drink up!

Increase your intake of detoxifying, antioxidant rich drinks like lemon water, green tea and green juices to hydrate, nourish and protect the body whilst promoting its natural detoxification methods.

6. Eat more fibre

Fibre is an essential nutrient for the digestive system to function properly.  Not eating enough fibre can result in bloating and sluggishness. When your digestive tract is working properly, toxins, waste, and anything else that has built up in within the tract will move through quickly helping you to feel lighter and more energised.

7. Reduce sugar

By reducing refined sugar in your diet, you’ll not only naturally improve your physical appearance (think glowing skin and unwanted weight) but you’ll also have improved  immune system, brain function and serotonin levels (happy hormones).

8. Clean out your makeup bag

We cannot stress how important this is! It is well known that your skin is your largest organ and it is said that “60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into the body” so it only makes sense that you nourish your skin the same way you do with your body with toxin free, natural makeup and skin care. Not only is this better for your health and the environment, but an Australian report published in the International Journal of Chemistry proved that natural products are better for your skin!

Barely There Makeup

Spring Makeup Tutorial: how to get the healthy naked glow

Presenting your Spring makeup tutorial! Now that the sunshine is peeking out from behind the clouds, it’s time to switch up your old routine with a range of skin loving natural makeup from 100% Pure [pigmented with real fruits and vegetables!]  plus our Lip Nourish Lipstick. Right in time for the fresh-faced season, we’re going to show you how to achieve that perfect naked glow using several simple techniques. Remember, less is more!

THE LOOK THIS SEASON

This Spring, barely-there makeup is more radiant than ever, giving the face dewy freshness and vibrancy. It’s out with matte skin and lips and in with an illuminated base with a touch of natural pigment fortified with super skin foods: think luminescent skin, luscious lips, earthy lids and va-va-voom lashes. The main focus is on healthy, nourished skin and makeup that wakes up. Darker shades are being replaced with a more seasonally appropriate colour palette (think pinks, peaches, and nudes—like our Lip Nourish in Rose Lime and Lip Nourish in Chai Shimmer) and these same soft and pretty hues will let your natural beauty radiate. Here’s what green makeup artist, Carla Jones, had to say about mastering a naked glow in less than 5 minutes with the bare (faced) basics Spring makeup tutorial.

Foundation

FOR YOUR SKIN

STEP ONE: For full coverage that’s not too heavy on the skin, apply 100% Pure Tinter Moisturiser [which is not only moisturising but is packed full of skin loving antioxidants and vitamins!] by starting at the centre of your face and blending outwards. I recommend using a good quality vegan makeup brush, then use your fingers to smudge any brush lines. If you’re pressed for time, fingers can work just as well – just be sure to make sure they’re clean! This super light and nourishing tinted moisturiser gives great buildable coverage and a gorgeous fresh, dewy finish.

TIP: If you’re worried about your makeup sweating off when it’s sunny off, try adding a primer underneath your base. 100% Pure Luminous Face Primer (due back in stock soon!) is a luxurious and illuminating organic formula packed with superfruits that will brighten your complexion while laying down the perfect canvas for makeup application.

STEP TWO: If you have dark circles, pigmentation or spots you want to hide, apply a little 100% Pure Brightening Concealer in White Peach beforehand or simply build the tinted moisturiser a little more in those areas.Your essential for the perfect naked glow

TIP: Courtesy of the strobe trend, skin that looks lit by a pearlised glow from within is definitely trending right now. Get the look by adding 100% Pure Luminous Creme in Starlight along the along the top of the cheekbones, nose bridge and on the cupids bow – so all the places where the sun would naturally hit. This cream highlighter gives natural light-reflecting coverage to let the light shine through, offering an incredible candlelit glow to your facial features.

STEP THREE: To give your face an instant lift , apply a little 100% Pure Cherry Lip and Cheek Stain by smiling in the mirror to find the apples of cheeks and apply it in an upwards motion with one finger, using the other clean fingers to blend.

TIP: Contouring, or sculpting, adds shadows to enhance bone structure and give the appearance of depth so if you want a bit of a sunkissed glow, swish on some 100% Pure Cocoa Glow Bronzer to the underside of the cheekbones, down the sides of the nose, along your hairline and jawline, and in the depth of the temples.

eyeshadow

FOR YOUR EYES

STEP FOUR: To shape the face, apply the 100% Pure Eyebrow Gel (I love the shade ‘Brunette’) using an angular brush and simply fill in any gaps or blonde patches in your brow hairs – do not colour in the whole eyebrow!

STEP FIVE: Then, using a brush, apply a light layer of  100% Pure Eye shadow in Vanilla Sugar all over the eyelids.

TIP: If you want a do-it-all eyeshadow palette, you can’t look past 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Pretty Naked Palette which contains universally flattering soft, neutral tones for every day use.

STEP SIX: Apply a subtle line of dark eye shadow ( Cashmere for a greeny/brown eye) to the top corner of the eyelid so you get that definition around the top of the eyes without the dramatic ‘cat eye’ look. Do not apply any eyeshadow/eyeliner to the bottom eyelids as this will make your eyes appear smaller.

TIP: To wake up your eyes and give off the appearance of 8 hours of sleep, apply 100% Pure Bright Eyes Creamy White Liner to the lower waterline to really make your eyes pop.

STEP SEVEN: Apply a coat of 100% Pure Black Tea Pigmented Mascara onto curled lashes to enhance your eyes even further.

Lip Nourish

FOR YOUR LIPS

STEP EIGHT: Finish off your barely-there look with your favourite Lip Nourish Lipstick! Try Tea Rose for a my-lips-but-better appeal, or any of the other universally flattering shades to keep your pout nourished and protected, and looking their kissable best. You can even add a dab of 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Shimmery Lip Gloss White Peach in the centre of your kissers to make them look plumped up, luscious and bursting with Spring-appropriate ripeness.

TIP: Spritz on a refreshing skin tonic over your breathable makeup to set it all into place, and hydrate your skin endlessly.

STEP NINE: Finish off your look with a pop of chic floral pink on the nails a la 100% Pure 10 Free Nail Polish in 12:51. The toxin-free formula features a subtle, natural and sophisticated finish perfect for your Spring repertoire.

TIP: Don’t forget to thoroughly cleanse your face every night to remove the day’s face.

Nadia Felsch

Natural Beauty Interview with Nadia Felsch

If there was ever an inspiration for following your dreams, Nadia Felsch is it.

After years of unhappiness in the corporate world, Nadia quit her job with no plan and no backup. She has since dedicated her life to living her heart’s wishes, and that is to share her love and knowledge of health, fitness and delicious food with the world, and with a beautiful new website and eBook, this is just the beginning for Nadia.

Nadia’ philosophy on healthy living is all about simplicity. She understands that when you nourish your body with delicious wholefoods, you will ‘look good and feel great’ and with the experience and knowledge to back it up, people are listening.

Nadia also believes that food is medicine and has used food to help restore her body from a long history of illness. Read to find out how she did it as well as Nadia’s top tips on food, beauty and following your dreams.

BUSINESS

You have made some huge changes to your life in past couple of years to get to where you are now. Can you tell us about your journey?

I worked in the fashion industry for many years and the last brand I worked for, I was responsible for establishing in an overseas market so it was super high pressure.  The role squeezed everything out of me and it was just too much, it wasn’t my calling. I felt my whole life was about money and I became really aware that I didn’t like the person I was or had become.

Then my husband and I went to Vietnam for three weeks and that trip in particular struck a cord in me; the beauty, the simplicity and how life was actually lived; and a week after we returned I quit my job. I didn’t think too much about it at that stage, I didn’t talk about it, nor did I have plan.

I took a big step back  and I started working in retail a couple days a week to pay the bills. During this time I was really enjoying spending time with my Mum and as a way of spending even more time together, we started the Mum and Daughter blog – a platform to share our health & fitness knowledge and also to write!

After a few months of blogging, I realised we had thousands of followers. I had always treated the blog as a business from the beginning, I think that is innate me even though I didn’t mean it to be. Earlier this year however it was becoming increasingly apparent that ‘this’ was my calling and what I wanted to do so naturally it became time to re-brand and re-launch. Working and creating alongside my incredible Mum has been such a treat and even as I move into my own site, I look forward to her position on the site as an expert fitness contributor.

Did you have an ‘uh-ha’ moment that prompted you to quit your job?

Yes! Towards the end of my time there in early 2013, I was outside my office and overcome with emotion so much that I was crying. I had never cried at work in my entire life.  I was on the phone to friend and I said to her that “I just want to live my life, I feel so restrained here,” she was concerned that I would quit and truthfully most people thought I was crazy! Despite that reaction I had one clear motivation – I wanted to be free of the heaviness and stress, I realised that life is too short. I had no plan and I certainly didn’t see myself doing what I’m doing now!

So why did you choose food and fitness to blog about?

Food and fitness feel like second nature to me and they always have. It’s where I come alive, it’s what I feel 100% myself immersed in. Sharing my knowledge and expertise in a field that causes so much anxiety to people is such a reward because their journey’s can very easily turn from anxious to the best thing ever

Although I already had an awareness of what I was putting into my body from my family and my background in competitive sports, I wanted more knowledge and understanding. Experts would mostly tell me to eat chicken and broccoli to get all my macronutrients but I thought ‘surely there has got to be something better than that’!

I taught myself how to nourish myself and make great tasting food which of course I want to share with others on their own health journey.

Tell us about your eBook ‘Eat Well Look Good Feel Great’:

I wanted my first book to be really manageable and not like big encyclopaedias of information, to be easily accessible and have a theme. Because salads are what I eat every single day it made sense to launch with exactly how I eat.

Think beyond iceberg lettuce. This is all about salads to nourish, sustain, energise and make you happy. There are meals, side dishes, super easy lunch ideas and ‘you’ll – be – invited – back’ table sharers.

The eBook contains 21 salad recipes and 19 supporting essentials recipes to get you organised, inspired and eating a variety of delicious foods.

This is health that tastes great.

eat well look good feel great

Do you any advice for others who want to start following their dreams?

It sounds a bit ‘hippy’ but my advice is to forget money, because in my case it kept me trapped for so long and I think it’s really false. You’ve just got to follow the heart and not the money.

As Steve Jobs famously said, “… and most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

FOOD

What is your food and diet philosophy?

My philosophy is to eat as close to nature as possible. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, two autoimmune system diseases and genetic insulin resistance, all for which I don’t take any medication for any more because I decided to make food my medicine.

I don’t eat things from packets or cans, I make everything from scratch and it’s not that complicated. I don’t eat fancy or elaborate things, I don’t have time and simple ingredients are the ones that taste the best anyhow!

Put simply: I eat real food.

What are you 3 must have ingredients in your home:

Avocado – when avocados are not having a good season it’s a pretty dire situation in my house!

Raw cacao – so versatile and surprisingly satisfying!

Coriander – in everything!

Nadia Felsch healthy eating

You say you eat predominantly raw foods, what are some of the benefits you’ve seen and felt of eating raw?

Digestion! Your stomach has to do a lot of processing through the ‘roughage’ and when you eat raw food, the enzymes which assist digestion are retained which helps the digestion process so much. You just generally feel lighter things don’t sit. I notice now if I do eat a steak or something like that, the processing in my body is so different, the way I feel the next day is so different. It’s not bad, it’s just not ideal.

Also, the difference in my skin has been amazing. I’ve always had pretty good skin though when I went mostly raw my skin just glowed, I’m 29 and no one thinks I look 29, it’s almost like a permanent detox!

What is your typical day on a plate:

I try to change it up a lot, the same as my exercise and I don’t do the same thing for more than a month.

Breakfast:  I make my own bread with nuts, seed and quinoa for breakfast and have that with 2 boiled eggs, half an avocado and a tomato. Sometimes I have some of my homemade hummus and/or pesto if I’m really hungry.

Lunch:  I usually have a salad. Today was a quinoa salad with eggs, loads of fresh herbs, baked vegies, chickpeas and lentils.  Sometimes I might put some halloumi or goats cheese in there.

Snack: A natural protein smoothie after exercise and a delightful raw cacao ball for those times when you just need something sweet.

Dinner:  If I do have a cooked meal it will be at night, like baked fish, cous cous with lamb or bbq chicken.

Everything I eat is very simple, uncomplicated and fresh.

BEAUTY

What is your beauty/skincare routine?

Just like my diet, my routine for my skin is very simple. I cleanse and moisturise in the morning and use tinted moisturiser with sunscreen during the day. I don’t wear a lot of makeup and if I do I always wear sunscreen underneath. I’m not a huge fan of makeup, even things like mascara I feel damage my eyelashes and make them fall out the more I wear it but I do love lipstick!

I exfoliate my whole body once a week and moisturise twice a day as well.

What is your best-kept beauty secret?

Water. Today I didn’t drink enough water and I immediately noticed my skin was not as plump or dewy, the difference was obvious. Also sleep – I read years ago that Jennifer Lopez said that sleep was her beauty secret and I think she’s stunning so it must work!

How do you nourish yourself from the inside to glow on the outside?

I think upping the fats in my diet definitely made a huge difference. Switching from high protein, which I was doing for many years, to high fat, I’ve noticed a big difference to how my skin looks. ‘Good’ fats like your Omega 3s and 6s are so amazing for our hair, skin and nails. I probably eat an avocado a day, nuts and eggs as well, fat is a large part of my diet and it’s working!

*My recent cholesterol testing from October 2014 showed it to be the lowest it has ever been.

LIFE

What happiness to you right now?

I’m pretty happy that the sun is out! That and the fact I am living my heart’s wishes. It always felt like a really unreachable goal and although I’ve not kicked all my goals, I am living my bliss and I’m so grateful everyday. I do what I love which is pretty amazing because not many people can do that.

What the best advice you’ve ever been given?

It sounds really silly but when I was 8 a friend’s mum told me to “stand with your shoulders back and walk tall” and that has always stuck with me. Not only has it helped all of my fitness work because I have good posture and minimal injuries though I think it really translates to how you feel. I feel confident when I walk tall, I feel proud.

What’s next for you?

My new site! It will be the ultimate food, health and wellbeing destination. Also more eBooks, I’m working towards another few over the next 6-12 months. Think delicious raw desserts, refreshing smoothies and juices and recreated classic dishes.
There’s currently some exciting collaboration plans in the works with some wonderfully talented people in the health & wellbeing industry + I also have my eyes on an app to bring my knowledge right to your phone!

Top yoga poses for stress

Top Yoga Poses For Stress

Yoga is one of the best ways to relax and recharge both physically and mentally to help us regain balance throughout our week, something we here at Luk are huge advocates of.

So as we prepare to emerge from winter and blossom into spring, we’ve asked Sydney’s most loved yogi, Sasha Hawley (also founder of ‘Yoga By The Sea’) to share with us her top yoga poses for stress that can be done anytime, anywhere to release tension, ease the mind, stretch the muscles and rejuvenate skin.

Recovery Pose

Also known as ‘chid’s pose’, this is a self-nurturing position which calms the central nervous system to help relieve stress and tension. It also gently stretches the lower back, hips, thighs, knees, and ankles and increases blood circulation to your head which help to easy headaches.

Yoga recovery pose

Recovery or ‘child’s’ pose

Forward Bend

Standing forward bend allows the blood to reach your head and circulate there to calm the mind and relieve stress whilst opening up the lower back to release tension. This pose will also stretch the hamstrings, calves, hips, thighs and knee and helps to reduces fatigue, anxiety and headaches.

Yoga pose forward fold

Standing Forward Bend

Pigeon

Whilst giving your glutes, groin and hamstrings a deep stretch, this pose releases pinched nerves in the hips and deep tensions in sacral and nerve belt around hips and stimulates the internal organs.

Yoga pose to reduce stress

Half Pigeon

Backbend

Backbends like bridge or wheel release the lower back and decompresses the spine to relax the entire body. This pose is extremely beneficial for those who sit long hours in front of the desk or computer and hunch over the desk all day as it relieves tension or stress and decreases ailments caused by it.

Top yoga poses for stress

Backbend variation

And of course the ultimate stress buster is meditation.

Meditation in yoga is generally done in corpse pose where you lie flat on the ground, palms facing up, legs apart and the whole body is relaxed. Meditation in corpse pose relaxes the central nervous system, calms the mind and relieves stress all in one. It can also be used to improve sleep and reduce headaches and fatigue.

On a deeper level, yoga is a state of being in which all apparent opposites, distinctions and states are reconciled. From this state of union we live without  inner conflict and are able to embrace our whole being from the surface to the depths, encompassing both our transient limitations and our perennial limitlessness. We honour and live from, by, and within our true nature. This is the key to a life of peace and contentment.

Love Sasha xx

So next time you feel the tension rising,  take a deep breath and hit the mat. If you need a little help, Yoga By the Sea  runs at 5 different locations with over 20 classes running  each week.  For more information on their schedule, workshops and retreats, head to their website.

Natural Beauty Interview with Irene Falcone of www.nourishedlife.com.au

Meet low tox beauty LEGEND and close friend of lük beautifood –  Irene Falcone of www.nourishedlife.com.au. Irene’s enthusiasm, ruthless determination and passion for toxic free living has made her online shop and blog the number one place for organic and natural beauty and healthy home products.

After leaving her job in marketing, Irene came to the realisation of what was really in our home and beauty products and the damaging effects they have on our bodies. Now, it’s her mission to provide Australia with 100% safe, clean products.

Between taking care of her gorgeous kids, running the shop, researching and writing for the blog, Irene takes some time to chat to us about business, natural beauty, food and reaching her dreams.

IRENE’S GORGEOUS BUSINESS

Irene, tell us about your life and career before ‘Nourished Life’ and why the change of direction?

Before Nourished Life I was marketing big brand beauty products, I was unknowingly smothering myself with a cocktail of toxic chemicals everyday. Then as Advertising Manager for Universal Studio I was putting in really long hours at the office and attending functions every other night. As a mum of 2 young children, any time I had left was spent looking after them rather than myself. Eventually I was so fatigued I couldn’t walk the flight of stairs to my office. It was that moment I decided to take control of my life and pay attention to what I was putting in and on my body.

Irene - last day at Universal Studios

Irene’s last day at Universal Studios

How did ‘Nourished Life’ begin and how has it evolved since 2010?

That evening, after the “stair awakening” I did something I’d never done before – I looked at the label on the back of my beauty products to understand what I was actually using, from there I moved to my pantry and laundry. By the end of that night I had thrown away every product in my entire house!

With an empty house, I needed to replace everything with safer toxin-free alternatives. Nourished Life was a simple blog I started to share my story and reviews on the best natural alternatives I could find. The Nourished Life Blog gained a lot of momentum really fast with many other women also wanting to use safer, products in their lives.

The task of finding safe, natural products was very overwhelming, there was nowhere to go where we could just replace everything in our homes and feel confident they were completely natural and safe. So I decided to set up my own shop based around this need!

What is your business philosophy?

I believe that anything the mind can dream, we can achieve. I believe building a business is as much about the creative energy and focus we put into our vision as the physical work we do.

What is a typical work day for you?  How do you juggle a family, a business and keep that life balance?

I’m still trying to achieve the balance I want, but my goals are to wake up earlier, fit in some Yoga, skip to the office after the school drop off and get through my to-do-list before pick up time! Then spend the evening nourishing the family. I’m not there yet… but I believe I can do it so I will.

For others out there wanting to start their own business, what is your advice?

Find your passion and focus on that, when you do what you love, you can’t go wrong!

BEAUTY

What is your daily ‘beauty regime’ ?

These days my beauty regime is really simple, I use a basic organic cleanser, toner, day cream, eye cream and tinted moisturiser with natural sunscreen . Then at night a concentrated Rosehip oil!

What is your best kept beauty secret?

Laughter!

What is your favourite product from ‘Nourished Life’ and why?

This changes every day as I discover new toxin-free goodies for the store. At the moment it’s the Eco Tan organic deodorant.  It’s hot outside and I’m racing around a lot and IT WORKS! If all women knew this existed, every mainstream deodorant brand would go out of business.

Tell us about the difference using natural, toxin free products have on your skin and body?

Energy!!!! I have energy to bounce out of bed every day, and physically my skin has gone from dull to glowing. The dark circles under my eyes have brightened, my hair has gone from straw-like to shiny and the biggest difference is the disappearing of cellulite that I believe is due to having less toxins in my body!

What are your top tips for those wanting to detox their beauty kit and home?

My best tip is to simply replace each item as you need it. For example, once your old mascara runs out, simply replace it with an organic one and before you know it your entire home will be transformed!

‘Nourished Life’ makes it so easy for anyone in Australia to have access to safe, toxin free products- what products would you recommend for the busy mums who want to look and feel gorgeous the natural way?

The best thing is for busy mums to send me a quick email with their skin type and the products they currently use. I then send back a simple list of beautiful replacements options together with some samples so they can get started.

FOOD

How do you fuel your body to ensure you have the energy you need to keep you going throughout the day?

I avoid as much sugar & gluten as possible and replace those foods with greens and healthy fats instead.

Describe your day on a plate for us:

Breakfast – Organic espresso with a big teaspoon of organic coconut oil, smoothie with coconut water and as many superfoods I can find!

Lunch – Massive salad with organic corn chips.

Dinner – Stir Fry vegies or home made fried rice.

Dessert – frozen berries.

What are your top three ‘can’t’ live without’ ingredients when you cook and why?

Coconut oil  (you can cook anything in it and it keeps us energies all day), Sea Salt (brings out the flavour in everything without the need to add any sauces), Passion (every meal taste better when love and passion is added)

LIFE

How do you live the life you love every day?

Everyday I feel so incredibly grateful for being able to work full time on Nourished Life and not be back in the 9-5 grind of corporate life.

What is the best advice you have ever been given and how do you live it?

Follow your gut and not your head. Every day I have to make decisions and choices about the next steps in my business. My head and my gut are always at war so I have had to learn to trust my gut instinct.

What is your personal Monday morning mantra?

I can change the world one day at a time.

What’s next for ‘Nourished Life’?

In 2014 I’m focusing on the health and fitness side of living a nourished life. This combined with the Beauty & Lifestyle focus I had this year should really round out the business to cover all areas of living a Nourished Life.

Irene of Nourished Life is now experiencing a more healthy, toxin free lifestyle. Look at her lustrous thick mane!

inspiration & motivation for 2014 my vision board

My vision board for 2014 | New Year Inspiration

Have you created a vision board before, I have always wanted to but could never find the right images, besides my hand writing is lousy.

It only occurred to me the other day that I could simply create one in a powerpoint with images from Pinterest and using all the fonts I love. Then I can share it, make it public and make myself accountable!! When it is printed out on a big sheet I will stick it on my pin board …the one I am going to make over to luk sunshine yellow instead of the red I have had for 10 years so my work space is more inspiring and organised. That way the minute I sit down I know what I am suppose to be doing!  No online rabbit holes for me, there is money to be made!

So what’s important next year?

1. Get Active.  To feel good about my body. I had that horrid experience a few days ago of buying a new bikini. It was not a pretty sight yet I am a size 12, 67kg and 178cm.  It only makes me fully aware of why so many women don’t feel great about how they look. After 3 trips to the change room to try and find something that fitted – the manager of the surf shop rescued me with styles that did. Still, after a few days on the beach, I have come to the sad realisation that I need to put in more effort than running after kids. My morning ‘weights’ walk, weekly long bike ride and once a week yoga MUST return to my schedule.  Trim and Toned is what I am looking for.

2. Create an outdoor Oasis. Somewhere to relax outside whether it is reading, stretching or thinking. A place to light a candle and nurture me. To turn that outdoor kindy gym type space on the verandah into a grown up space. No more padded colourful squares or plastic toys. I am done! Move on.

3. Nourish my family. I do that now but I want to get a better routine going. To make shopping easier – I can’t believe how much time I spend keeping our pantry and fridge stocked. I also want to change my mindset on preparing our evening meal – to treat it as chill out time for me by giving myself enough time and thought to create new dishes…and enjoy the process. Most mornings I juice or make smoothies (the luk glow+ go green or berry red antioxidant) but again it’s a massive effort to keep up the produce supply. I bake for the lunch boxes and healthy snacks, but not regularly – that I want – so I have to lock in when I do it….that’s half the battle.

4. Make my Money. You’ll understand what this means if you are on a single family income and use to earn and pay your way before kids (or selling your first biz). I miss my independence and ability to squander ! But even more important is that I have 3 years to kick butt. We have planned to take the kids out of school for a year and travel Australia so that means this is the BHAG. The Big Hairy Audacious Goal. The one that makes your tummy churn. And we need to jiggle and juggle how hubby can work less. He is over it and I am revved to go but he is bringing in the bucks and um well I am micro cash-flowing stock.

5. Grow my Kitchen Garden. I have a fabulous garden that hubby built us a few years ago, it is filled with herbs, kale spinach and um, weeds.  For a few months of each year it looks fabulous and full fills all my urban sustainability dreams but then the wheel fall off, the weeds take over, everything goes to seed and chickens are allowed to peck it to bits. I love a kitchen garden because you can shoozzy up anything in seconds with fresh herbs and if your cupboard is bare there are always greens to toss together for a salad or to fill a kids sandwich if the pickings are thin.

6. Travel for Work. I am desperate to travel for work and what I mean by that is nothing, quote nothing, charges your ‘can do’ batteries more than exporting your own brand. The satisfaction of selling products to major retailers or businesses overseas is second to none. And the people you meet, the places you visit via trade shows opens up another world. To be successful at export you must be ready. Many majors love to get involved at a product development level so it make sense to dip your big toe in the water if you have an innovative and unique brand offer. Can I have my Qantas Club membership back ….pretty please!

7. Work Life Balance. If you know me well, this is a huge mantra of mine. Until the middle of this year I was managing a 15 hr work week, with the launch of the new website that blew out the window.  So now I am putting my neck out and saying that I’ll work when both kids are at school and anything else at weeknights is a bonus. School holidays are light on as the kids need looking after. Plan is up at 5.30 (exercising, juicing and healthy lunch boxes!!) & bed by 10pm.  (reading and beauty sleep!)  By setting such a strict framework you have to make the business work – it needs a sexy business model, talented people and systems. I may just start the year looking for a talented advisory board and writing an investment plan.

So, they are the big ones, there are more on the vision board. If you would like to create your own then use my ppt as a template by downloading it from Slideshare I also save you the trouble of finding all those tricky little fun bits like swing tags, pins, stick it notes and ripped paper  – not to mention the cork board itself.

Let me know how you go at creating your vision board. It’s good to sit down and work out what is important for you, and make sure you involve your partner and family to prioritise things.

Have a fabulous 2014. x

PS – my friend Sara asked “what about friends and family?” Good question – it is a given. 🙂

Nourished life - 5 ways how to live

Living a Nourished Life

NOURISHED LIFE

A nourished life is a way of living that is clean, natural, healthy and energising to bring a sense of balance and calm.

It is about making your state of physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing at the centre of every thing you do and know… without sacrificing style, convenience and performance!

A Nourished Life is our third vital ingredient for a beautiful natural you (Natural beauty and Clean food the other 2) .  Our bodies can absorb chemicals that we come into contact with, even if we weren’t intending to, so it’s important to eliminate anything that is toxic. We are guessing you know how important it is to have a home free of chemicals and radiation,

What’s needed to make your home healthy? From ditching Teflon and bleached baking paper in the kitchen to finding or making DIY natural cleaning products that work – we have been there. We are not perfect in the way we live a nourished life nor do we strive to be but in a world where everyday we are bombarded by products and mixed messages, we have worked out easy ways to make your home healthier, your life richer.

How do you manage life work balance? Discover how to determine what your priorities are in life, and established routines and ways to relax and enrich your daily life to enable you to feel less stressed. It could be creating a kitchen garden that provides herbs to spice up a dish or fill the green food gap when you can’t make it to the shops OR designing an outdoor space to retreat to for ‘me time’.

What about our kids – how do we raise them to be fit and vital, to care for our environment and help make the switch to a healthier life when everyone around them is still living toxic ways? (#peergrouppressure) Why the alarming rate of allergies and intolerances?  What bath and hair products are you using? What’s the fuss with fluoride-free toothpaste? Do natural sunscreens work – what are the best? What happens when little one has been giving toxic play makeup?

Nourished life - 5 ways how to live

Ways to live a nourished life.

Inspirational quotes are a fabulous way to help you start and/ or  keep you on track to live a more nourished life.  They motivate and remind you of what’s essential. Each monday morning I write about something you can apply to your daily life to make small changes in your thinking or actions. For the year ahead I pull all my most important thoughts together to create an inspiring vision board for me. Why not create a vision or dream board and pop it on a pin board in the kitchen or at your desk to keep you inspired and on track to living more natural and healthy. I love creating my board at that dreamy time between Boxing day & New Years eve.

Here are my top 10 favourite ways to live a more nourished life:

  1. Choose eco friendly chemical free household cleaning products or DIY simple products like baking soda and vinegar.
  2. Use pure essential oils, not perfumes, to fragrance your home
  3. Make sure products aren’t tested on animals.
  4. Grow your own herb and vegetable garden – a vertical wall if space is tight.
  5. Ditch plastic wraps and pre-packed products for a rubbish-free lunch box.
  6. Buy your food from farmer’s markets or a co-op to support local food growers
  7. Reuse, repurpose and recycle properly – chickens are a great way to get rid of food scraps, or
  8. Set up a worm farm – the compost you make will be great for helping your garden grow!
  9. Take advantage of the great outdoors to feel rejuvenated. Get back to nature.
  10. Dissolve stress and increase happiness in minutes by going for a bike ride or walk.
