How to get glowing skin – the fast and easy way

I’m of the belief that we all deserve deliciously glowing skin that exudes pure vitality and radiance, but achieving complexion nirvana is not always an easy feat. Thankfully all you need is a bit of a boost, some healthy balance and the right nourishing practices to master a flawless canvas and heal your skin from the inside out.

Below, I’ve thrown together all of my best tips and tricks to help you supercharge your skin to optimum health and keep it glowy and gorg, without the need for pricey facials or dermal fillers. These quick steps are easy to squeeze into your daily routine and require minimal effort (amen). Read on natural beauties!

1. Always, ALWAYS wash your face at night – even if you’ve worn no makeup.

Over the course of the day, makeup, dirt, and oil build up on your face. Make cleansing your skin with an all-natural, nourishing formula part of your bedtime routine so you can clean and prep your canvas for lotions and potions that go on top. You might also want to apply a toner (free of alcohol, astringents and fragrances) which removes any product residue and will also help close your pores. Make your own healthy DIY concoction with 2 Tbs. of Apple Cider Vinegar and 4 Tbs. of distilled water. Combine in a bottle and shake well before each use. Apply using a cotton ball, being careful around the delicate eye area. Voila! Easy.

3. Smooth on some moisturiser and serum.

Moisturising your face morning and night with either either a lotion or serum (or both!) helps your skin repair itself and wards off wrinkles. Reach for natural, organic formulas that contain fortifying vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that feed your skin at a cellular level and are free of any chemical baddies that could potentially strip the skin and absorb into the pores. Don’t forget your neck and décolletage! These areas can get super dry and irritated not to mention wrinkly if you never moisturise them. For best results, apply to freshly washed skin to lock in hydration.

4. Get your sleep.

It’s called beauty sleep for a reason! Sleep deprivation lowers circulation and can make your skin look lacklustre and dull. Amp up your body’s cellular renewal system by getting a minimum of 8 hours per night (7, if you’re super time poor, should do the trick!).

5. Snack on nuts.

Healthy foods like Brazil Nuts and Walnuts are rich in selenium and omega-3 fatty acids to lower inflammation and put the brakes on breakouts. Macadamias are similarly full of high quality oils and fatty acids that aid in skin repair and rejuvenation, so don’t be afraid to keep a handful somewhere close by for when it’s snack time.

6. Keep hydrated.

Water helps clear the toxins that cause inflammation and blemishes, and is fab at transporting nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells which helps deliver elasticity, softness and smoothness. Aim for 2 litres per day, and if you struggle with this, set a reminder on your phone to drink every hour. You might also want to squeeze a bit of citrus in with your h20 which is a great little skin detoxifier. For a bit of flavour, try sipping on skin-soothing teas like chamomile or mint.

6. Exfoliate once a week.
If your skin tends to be dry and flaky, a weekly exfoliation can clear out dead skin cells. That’s because your complexion looks radiant when it’s smooth enough to reflect light. Find a natural exfoliant that has super fine grains, and use light pressure and gentle motions. To make your own, combine  yoghurt, organic coconut oil and natural oats. Scrub on your face in a circular motion, let sit for 15-30 minutes, rinse, wash as usual. You’ll be luminous in no time!
7. Clean your makeup brushes and your pillow cases.
Our makeup brushes and pillows tend to collect dirt and bacteria which can cause breakouts so make sure you’re giving your brushes and bed linen a good wash at least once per week.

9. Have a healthy, balanced diet.

A diet high in fats and carbohydrates can actually cause more wrinkles.  To keep your cells revved up and rejuvenated, stick to plenty of fresh fruit and veg, lean protein like fish, white meat poultry, tofu, beans and lentils etc. Here’s a list of more skin foods and their awesome nutritional benefits.

10. Enhance your glow with makeup.

This Root vegetable is a cream to white colour and grows with a green leafy top when in the ground. They are just like  a carrot but sweeter and were used as a sweetener before sugar cane.

The beauty benefits of parsnips begin as potassium balances fluids in the body.  This helps to maintain optimum levels of moisture in the skin, keeping it hydrated and smooth. Parsnips contain a nutrient called falcarinol which acts as both an anti-inflammatory and  antioxidant nutrient. This helps to rid the body of any damaging free radicals while giving you a smooth, clear toned complexion. Quick Soup Recipe – Nourishing Lentil and Vegetable

Looking for winter warmers in less than an hour? Try this nourishing lentil and vegetable quick soup recipe to warm your soul and moisturise your skin at the same time!  

Cooler weather means dry skin and a craving for comfort food! However, comfort food doesn’t need to be tedious or time consuming …this quick soup recipe is easy to make on a busy weeknight leaving you free to worry about things other than what your eating.  Packed with vitamin A-rich veggies this quick soup recipet will  help nourish your complexion and ease dry skin to keep you looking your best!


Carrots and tomatoes contain a fab combination of vitamin A, beta carotene and lycopene to fight against wrinkle causing free radicals – those  pesky ‘oxidisers’ that can also cause early ageing. Without enough vitamin A your skin can become dry especially as wind and cool weather imbalance the surface.  Maintaining a sufficient level of this fat soluble vitamin is key to ensuring a smooth, glowing appearance. Tomatoes also contain vitamin K which works to brighten dark patches under the eyes and encourage a radiant complexion.  The mix of iron and vitamin C in broccoli aids your complexion by working to keep skin from sagging while assisting in the formation of collagen in cells. Turmeric helps to keep redness and puffiness under control with its anti-inflammatory properties while celery aids the body to remove toxins through its high fibre content.  This nourishing yet quick soup recipe is the perfect winters’ day skincare treatment to keep your complexion on track!


50 minutes wo to go. Serves 4


2-3 tablespoons olive oil

1 carrot, peeled and diced

2 medium ripe tomatoes, quartered

3/4 cup broccoli, diced

2 celery sticks, diced

1 red onion, finely diced

3 cloves garlic, crushed

2 cups vegetable stock

400g can brown lentils, rinsed and drained

250mL natural yoghurt

1/4 cup parsley, chopped

3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

salt & pepper

fresh chives, snipped to garnish


1. Prepare ingredients.  Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat and add tomatoes, mushing and squashing with a wooden spoon.  Simmer, stirring regularly for 2 minutes.

2.  Add carrot, broccoli celery and onion and cook for 6-8 minutes or until soft.  Add garlic and cook for a further 2 minutes.

3.  Add stock and cover, bringing to the boil.  Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

4.  Add lentils and cook for 3 minutes or until warm.  Add yoghurt, parsley, turmeric and season, stir, simmer gently for a further 3 minutes.

5.  Serve warming lentil and vegetable soup immediately, topped with chives.

  • Spice up this quick soup recipe with some chilli, cumin or smokey paprika.
  • Save any left overs in an air tight container in the fridge and reheat for tomorrows lunch!
  • Cook once, eat twice: double the quick soup recipe batch and freeze for an extra quick and easy dinner.
  • Like your soup smooth and creamy…especially so little ones will eat it? Just blend before serving.

Pumpkin Soup with Asian Aromatics

Pumpkin soup is a favourite of everyone’s. Why not tickle it up a bit with extra vegetables, coconut and some aromatic spice for a change? This pumpkin soup takes around an hour to cook – perfect for a week night dinner.


Pumpkin is fabulous for its high vitamin A and beta carotene!  Vitamin A fights against free radicals which can damage our body and bring on wrinkles. Without enough vitamin A our skin can become dry, this pumpkin soup is a great way to boost your vitamin A content and maintain soft smooth skin whilst creating an easy meal all the family (especially kids) will love.



1 butternut pumpkin – peeled, chopped roughly. (set seeds aside for toasting later)

1 onion – roughly chopped

Drizzle of oil to saute (eg coconut)

1/4 tspn cumin seeds

1/4 tspn coriander seeds

water or 1 litre chicken stock

1 tblspn coconut

2 tblspn cashews (optional in case of allergies)

ginger – few slices

1 clove garlic

salt & pepper

other veggies if on hand – roughly choppep – a stick of celery, a few slices red capsicum, a tomato, or carrot.

  1. Fry onions to til soft. Add spices and fry for a minute to release aromatics. Add all other ingredients, bring to boil. Turn down to simmer for an hour.
  2. Puree with a turbo charged stick or in a blender. If too thick – add some more liquid – water, milk, nut milk or stock.
  3. Whilst the soup is cooking gently pan fry the pumpkin seeds in olive oil and salt.
  4. Serve with a dollop of yoghurt, sour cream or a drizzle of tahini & a sprinkle of the seeds.
  • I love to use chicken stock as it adds another dimension to the soup – Campbell’s 1 litre tetra packs are fine if you don’t have time to DIY for this pumpkin soup.
  • If the pumpkin seeds are too tough with their husk then saute the commercially bought green pepitas (inside seed).
  • Cashews help make the pumpkin soup creamy

DIY Strawberry Face Scrub

For bright, glowing skin, it’s just as important to exfoliate as it is to moisturise. Without exfoliating, dead skin cells start to pile up on the skin’s surface leaving it looking dull, dry and ‘rough’. Try our super easy strawberry face scrub and let your skin shine!

Strawberries are a proven beauty enhancers, containing vitamin C, salicylic acid, antioxidants and natural exfoliating properties to brighten skin and clear complexion. Salicylic acid removes dead cells from the face whilst vitamin C works to improve collagen production.

Strawberries also contain alpha-hydroxy acids, which, when applied to the skin, help to break up the outer layer of dead skin.

By adding a small squeeze of lemon to the mix you’ll get an extra kick of vitamin C and antioxidants. Lemon also contains a natural acid which helps remove the dead layer of skin from the face while the sweet almond oil in this recipe will moisturise, nourish the ‘new’ skin cells.

This recipe is safe for those who suffer from acne as both lemon and strawberries are both great natural disinfectants and help to heal up blemishes, sores, acne scars, and skin rashes.


1. Finely mash with a fork or puree three to four fresh, preferably organic, strawberries [with the tops cut off]

2. Add in a small squeeze of fresh lemon

3. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar and about two teaspoons of sweet almond oil

4. Stir well.

5.  Gently massage into clean skin [I cleansed my skin and removed all make up first] and wash off with warm water. Follow with your preferred moisturiser or try one of our DIY face masks if your skin is particularly dry.

Relax and Enjoy


  • Store in an air tight container in the fridge but do not keep for longer than a day or two.
  • You can grate some fresh lemon into to the mix
