With soft skin, sweet flesh and a pleasant aroma, peaches are the perfect addition to your summery days, bringing a gorgeous boost of antioxidants!

FOOD ACTIVES:

Phenols, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, potassium, magnesium, zinc, calcium, copper, selenium and fibre.

BEAUTY BENEFITS OF PEACH:

Peaches are high in both vitamin A and vitamin C which makes a gorgeous combination for your skin! These two antioxidants work to ensure healthy regeneration of skin cells to keep it soft and bright while greatly reducing damage done by free radicals. The presence of phenols in peaches protects your hair from the summer sun, protecting against damage from UV rays while selenium encourages hair growth for lush strong strands. They also help to cleanse your kidneys from toxins due to their diuretic nature.

COOK:

Eat peaches with their skin on, you can run them under cold water before eating to get rid of their slightly fuzzy texture. Warm them in a pan by slicing, removing the seed and sprinkling with cinnamon.

TIP:

When buying peaches, check to see how they feel. They shouldn’t be overly hard or mushy, when squeezed gently their skin should give slightly to the pressure.  Avoid ones with wrinkled skin and look for ones with a sweet aroma and buy organic when possible.

With gorgeous purple tones, garlic adds flavour, aroma and nutrition to dishes.  It is a close relative of onions and is native to Central  Asia.

FOOD ACTIVES:

Vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin B1, manganese, selenium, calcium, copper, phosphorus and fibre.

BEAUTY BENEFITS OF GARLIC:

Garlic’s beauty benefits are predominantly from sulfur compounds, like Allicin which helps to provide both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial protection to the body.  This helps to control bacteria and viruses while supporting your immune system to keep you looking and feeling great. It also helps to promote clear skin, cleansing your body and soothing inflammation.

COOK:

Try to include at least half a clove in an individual serving, if you’re cooking for 4 that means at least 2 cloves in the recipe. Finely dice or crush the garlic and add it to dishes either raw or cooked, you can even bake it whole.

TIP:

Allicin is released when the clove is chopped, crushed or chewed. Letting the garlic sit for a few minutes after chopping or crushing allows as much allicin to released as possible – once it begins to cook, no more will be released.

Beauty Benefits of Eating Raw

You don’t need to undertake a fully raw lifestyle to reap the benefits of eating raw! Here we go deeper to find out what eating raw and how it can help you achieve that natural glow…

At lük we encourage you to nourish your body with beautiful food both raw and cooked to enhance your natural beauty. Balance and moderation is key to a healthy life, ‘crowding in’ and ‘swapping up’ the foods you eat underlies our eating philosophy. Eating raw doesn’t mean you have to change your mindset or diet completely to enjoy the benefits… but a raw food at every meal will provide your body with gorgeous benefits!

What is raw food?

Food that is raw! Meaning it has not been heated over 45  degrees Celsius to ensure the enzymes are not denatured meaning a loss in nutritional value. Raw food can be wholefoods and produce such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and oils which are eaten in their natural state. It can also be for example ‘raw’ crackers or dehydrated foods providing the temperature is control.  Raw food is also free from additives, preservatives, refined sugars and added fats and can include fresh juices, smoothies, nut milks or butters, soups, salads and sprouted grains.

What are the benefits of eating raw?

Raw foods are rich in enzymes which help our body to digest what we’re eating, convert it to energy, absorb nutrients and put them to use! Enzymes also work to make sure the processes in the body are running smoothly and ensure cells are repaired, meaning hair, skin and nails are kept strong and healthy. Eating raw food also aids the digestive system as a higher number of enzymes help break down the food, putting less pressure on your digestive system so energy can be spent elsewhere.

Eating ‘raw’ can help to flush toxins from your body by cleansing your cells in such a way your body is able to effectively fight against free radicals and repair any damage. By reducing the number of toxins your body to focus its energy on other things such as supporting your immune system or giving you focus and energy while maintaining and enhancing your natural beauty.

Not only does reducing the toxin load help your immune system, but the intake of a variety of vitamins and minerals from the fresh fruit and vegetables also helps to keep your immune system in tip top shape!  Eating food in its raw state means the chances of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals being destroyed is lower.  This reduces the chances of you becoming sick as your body is able to fight and destroy illnesses before they begin to show symptoms.

Eating ‘raw’ ensures you boost your fruit and vegetable intake helping you to increase your nutrients and receive a variety of vitamins, minerals and important beauty nutrients

Some key beauty nutrients include silicon, zinc, sulfur, iron and potassium.  Silicon allows strong, shiny nails as well as stronger hair.  Zinc helps to ward away acne while also helping to rebuild collagen in the skin, to fight sagging and wrinkles while potassium helps to maintain correct levels of moisture in the skin, allowing cells to stay plump and hydrated while creating a smooth complexion.

Eating raw food can boost your energy and fuel your cells which in turn creates a better gut health and a clear complexion so you can look and feel your best.  The abundance and variety of fresh fruit and vegetables helps to maintain the alkalinity of your body to prevent inflammation.

Ways to boost your raw food intake

Eating raw doesn’t have to be difficult, in fact it can actually make healthy eating easier.  Here are a few quick ways to include raw food into your diet:

  • Drink Green smoothies – Try our Luk Glow + Go green smoothie which is full of fresh ingredients and a boost of active beauty nutrients!

Your ‘How-To’ Guide on Pineapples

As a hero ingredient of spring, pineapples are fabulous for tightening, softening skin and maintaining a gorgeous complexion through the warmer months.

This vibrant fruit is known for its enzyme, bromelain which works wonders for your skin and digestive system to allow your body to absorb nutrients and discard toxins. Read on to find our how to use pineapple to make your skin glow!

We also have here your go to guide on how to choose and cut pineapples + some delicious light recipes to create.

HOW TO CHOOSE PINEAPPLES

Ripe pineapples have a gorgeous, sweet aroma with healthy green leaves.  Try to pluck a leaf from the center, if it comes out it is ripe but if it comes out too easy it is over ripe. Once picked, pineapples become juicier but not sweeter. We recommend buying Bethonga Gold pineapples which are Australian grown and naturally sweet.  Read more about how to pick and choose pineapples in our beauty food glossary.

HOW TO CUT PINEAPPLES

1. With a sharp knife cut off both the top and bottom of the pineapple, about half an inch from each end.

2. Stand the pineapple upright, carefully cutting downwards to remove the layer of skin. Make sure to only cut a thin layer as this is the sweetest, juiciest part – don’t worry about the round eyes being left on they will be removed later.

3. Cut diagonally into the pineapple – you will see the left over eyes will line up.  When cutting, cut on an angle, making two cuts which will allow the strip of eyes to easily fall out.

4. Continue to move around the pineapple, cutting V shapes diagonally until all of the eyes are removed. Once done, you can cut it into smaller pieces either vertically or horizontally and cut out the core if you like.
