DIY face mask for salty summer skin

DIY Face Mask for Salty, Summer Skin

A full day of sun, sand and sea water, though incredibly nourishing for the soul, can be taxing on your skin and hair. Feed your dry skin with our moisturising, antioxidant packed pomegranate, yoghurt and honey face mask and follow with your favourite luk beautifood clean eating recipe to glow from the inside out.

Pomegranate is packed full of rich antioxidants which protect collagen thereby slows down the appearance of fine lines caused by sun exposure. They also contain ellagic acid which helps to prevent wrinkles.

Pomegranate combined with yoghurt is also incredibly soothing for those with dry, irritated skin – perfect if you’ve been in the sun and surf all day. Combined with the cleansing, moisturising properties of honey, this mask will have your skin looking radiant, soft and hydrated by dinner time, particularly if you have some organic rosehip oil on hand to add to follow after you’ve rinsed the mask off.

HOW TO

1. Combine 2 tablespoons of organic unflavoured yoghurt with 1 teaspoon of honey

2. Add 1 teaspoon of home made or store bought organic pomegranate juice and stir well

[TIP: for extra aroma and antioxidants you can add zest of a lime]

3. Stir well

4. Apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes

5. Rinse face with warm water and pat dry. Follow with some organic rose hip oil or your favourite natural moisturiser

DIY Deep Cleansing Mask

DIY Deep Cleansing Mask with oats & honey

Revitalise and clear your skin with lük’s DIY deep cleansing mask. This super quick [and cheap!]  mask is made up of oats, milk and honey and will rid the skin of pore clogging debris and leave your skin soft, soothed, moisturised and glowing.

Ground oats [or oatmeal] provide gentle exfoliation and are extremely cleansing, healing and softening to the skin. They are also full of Vitamin B to regenerate skin cells for a fresh faced complexion.

Milk’s [as well as yoghurt and buttermilk] natural lactic acid helps remove dead skin cells and its inherent fat (4%)  soothes dry, irritated skin.

Honey will help to open up the pores whilst moisturising the skin and giving it a hit of beauty nutrients for a glowing complexion.

HOW TO

1. Soak 1/2 a cup of oatmeal [almond meal can also be used] in milk suited to your skin type overnight

2. Add a teaspoon of organic raw honey to the mix

3. Stir well

4. Gently massage the paste into your skin using circular movements and leave for 5-10 minutes

5. Wet a face towel with warm water and use to gently remove the cleanser

6. Rinse your face with cool water to close the pores

7. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and follow with your favourite natural moisturiser.

DIY Strawberry Face Scrub

For bright, glowing skin, it’s just as important to exfoliate as it is to moisturise. Without exfoliating, dead skin cells start to pile up on the skin’s surface leaving it looking dull, dry and ‘rough’. Try our super easy strawberry face scrub and let your skin shine!

Strawberries are a proven beauty enhancers, containing vitamin C, salicylic acid, antioxidants and natural exfoliating properties to brighten skin and clear complexion. Salicylic acid removes dead cells from the face whilst vitamin C works to improve collagen production.

Strawberries also contain alpha-hydroxy acids, which, when applied to the skin, help to break up the outer layer of dead skin.

By adding a small squeeze of lemon to the mix you’ll get an extra kick of vitamin C and antioxidants. Lemon also contains a natural acid which helps remove the dead layer of skin from the face while the sweet almond oil in this recipe will moisturise, nourish the ‘new’ skin cells.

This recipe is safe for those who suffer from acne as both lemon and strawberries are both great natural disinfectants and help to heal up blemishes, sores, acne scars, and skin rashes.

HOW TO

1. Finely mash with a fork or puree three to four fresh, preferably organic, strawberries [with the tops cut off]

2. Add in a small squeeze of fresh lemon

3. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar and about two teaspoons of sweet almond oil

4. Stir well.

5.  Gently massage into clean skin [I cleansed my skin and removed all make up first] and wash off with warm water. Follow with your preferred moisturiser or try one of our DIY face masks if your skin is particularly dry.

Relax and Enjoy

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Store in an air tight container in the fridge but do not keep for longer than a day or two.
  • You can grate some fresh lemon into to the mix
