This gorgeous ruby and aromatically spiced tea made with fresh cranberries and citrus is perfect for Spring. It’s not only cheerful and cooling, it’s caffeine-free too – so all kids, and kids at heart, can join in the fun.

A much-loved staple for Thanksgiving in the Northern Hemisphere, I’ve re-imaged the recipe as the perfect tonic and delicious iced tea in the our warmer months.

Iced Cranberry and Citrus Tea

Cranberry Citrus Antioxidant Tea

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • Generous handful cranberries – frozen (if dried use 1/3 cup)
  • 2 whole cloves
  • ½ or 1 cinnamon stick
  • Peel of orange, 2x 5cm x 1cm piece
  • Squeeze lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon of sugar if desired
  • Additional cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)

Method (It’s super simple!)

  1. Pop cranberries pot with water, cloves and cinnamon sticks and orange peel. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Add lemon juice. Sweeten to taste. Strain out cranberries if you like.
  3. Add cinnamon sticks for garnish if you like and serve hot or cold.

Green Tea Face Mist

DIY Green Tea and Rose Face Mist

[BEAUTY]

As the Spring days get warmer and our skin restores from whipping winds and indoor heating, this is the ideal ‘pick me up’ to refresh and rejuvenate. Create your own Green Tea and Rose Face Mist made from skin-loving ingredients to pick you up and cool down you down on the go.

Green tea is a great anti-inflammatory and soother and is full of antioxidants to give you ‘the glow’. If you suffer from breakouts due to increased sweat production in the warmer months, green tea also has antibacterial properties to help calm irritated skin. It can also be used to soothe and rejuvenate sun burnt skin.

There are numerous benefits of Rosehip oil, but in short it’s a great moisturiser as it’s full of omega fatty acids to keep skin supple and repair damage and also protects against free radical damage.

As an alternative, feel free to grab a lemon and zest some skin into the recipe. As well as being ‘uplifting’ and antibacterial it’s ideal for oily skin and acne or if you suffer from scars and age spots. As lemon juice is a natural exfoliant you may like to add some too. The citric fruit acid acts as a gentle “skin peel” that removes the top layer of dead skin cells, results in a smooth complexion. I like to use a few drops of lemon oil on my skin at night before moisturising.

HOW TO

1. Brew a fresh pot of [preferably organic, loose leaf] green tea

2. Pour into a small cup and add 3-4 drops of organic Rosehip oil

[OPTIONAL: you can grate some fresh lemon into the mix]

3. Stir well

4. Place the mixture in the fridge to cool and transfer into a small spray bottle [doesn’t have to be fancy, a plastic one from the discount store will do!]

5. Voila! Close your eyes and spray you face 1-3 times as many times as you like during the day

Relax and Enjoy

Refrigerate up to a week to keep the spray fresh.

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • You can keep the spray in your handbag and use it at room temperature, but I personally love that cooling effect of keeping it in the fridge
  • If you like, you can add vitamin E oil as well.

Traditional Chai Tea Recipe

Nurture and nourish yourself this Winter with our traditional chai tea. Filled with skin loving herbs and spices, it’s the perfect guilt-free treat to warm and soothe your body. 

Originating from South Asia and also known as masala chai (mixed-spice tea), chai tea is a creation of different herbs and spices in different ratios to create a  personalised treat that is one of the most enriching and  anti-inflammatory teas you can drink. I found whilst savouring my chai [and quiet moment to myself], I was warmed from the inside out and could almost feel myself begin to glow from all those nourishing ingredients. Even the ritual of creating and brewing the chai tea recipe was a lovely way to relax and recharge. TRADITIONAL CHAI TEA RECIPE

15 minutes go to whoa. Makes 1 cup.

YOU’LL NEED

2 whole black peppercorns

3 cardamon pods

3 whole cloves

1 cinnamon stick

Just over 1cm of fresh ginger

1 whole nutmeg

1 tbspn black tea

1 1/2 cups water

1/2 cup milk of choice [we recommend cold pressed almond milk]

Optional: 1 tbspn of honey

HOW TO

1. To prepare the spice, gently smash cardamon with the side of a knife, peel and thinly slice the ginger, then combine all spices in a saucepan.

2. Add water and milk to the saucepan and bring to the boil. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring regularly to ensure the milk is not burning.

3. Add the black tea to the saucepan, continuing to simmer for a further 5 minutes.

4. Strain the chai tea mixture using a fine strainer, into a gorgeous mug and enjoy while warm!

TIPS AND TRICKS
  • Use this chai tea recipe as a base, don’t be afraid to try different ratios of the ingredients to find your perfect style!
  • In this chai tea recipe, you can choose to only add the water to the saucepan.  You can then heat the milk separately and add to your mug. Note, simmer time will be reduced if choosing to do this.
  • These spices may be ground together and kept in an air tight container to store until you next use this chai tea recipe!

It’s good to have some go-to recipes, ones that you don’t much thinking about as you know they will tick your healthy eating criteria boxes: 

You know what I mean – this recipe for Avocado Lime Dressing is one of those. We simply take healthy everyday ingredients and turn simple into a little bit special: avocado is creamy and silky rich and limes are exotic (grown in warm tropical climate unlike winter lemons), together they make a magic combination and give green salad leaves a new look and taste.

 BEAUTY BENEFITS

Antioxidants such as vitamin C and limonoids found in limes as well as vitamin E, carotenoids and zeaxanthan found in avocado will work to boost your body’s protection, fighting against damaging free radicals.  This will help to reduce inflammation, sagging and wrinkles while keeping your complexion radiant and smooth. AVOCADO LIME DRESSING RECIPE
YOU’L NEED

1 perfectly ripe avocado

1 lime – juice and zest

garlic – just a little, crushed

fresh finely chopped herbs – 1 or more of mint, parsley, basil, chives, coriander

1 tspn dijon mustard

S&P

oil (olive, walnut, flaxseed)  – just a dash to create the desired consistency & flavour

HOW TO
  1. Mash the  avocado in a bowl.
  2. Add lime juice, zest, garlic, s&p, mustard – whisk in til avocado is smooth and creamy
  3. Add herbs – as little or much as you desire. Eg 1 tblspn or 1/4 cup.
  4. Adjust: add a touch of oil and whisk in. If too sour, add a dash of something sweet & or a bit more salt to balance the sweet, sour, salt ratio – the key to a good dressing.
TIPS AND TRICKS
  • Serve avocado and lime dressing over green leaves, chopped herbs and shaved fennel.
  • If you like give your salad a beauty boost with a sprinkle of plant protein rich nuts (eg toasted pinenuts or almonds) or seeds (pumpkin – zinc or chia seeds – omega 3’s) For more ideas on creating a green salad repertoire – click here.

Glow Balls Recipe | the perfect, protein-packed, portable snack

[RECIPE] Makes lots! | 15 mins

This recipe is a craving buster, and contains no added sugar, is gluten free, protein-packed and makes the perfect go-to portable snack. Oh, and did we mention that it will boost your brain and nourish your skin. What more could you want!

BEAUTY BOOST

These little bliss balls are just packed full of goodness! Firstly raw cacao is full of flavonoids, which act as natural antioxidants. In fact, raw cacao has the highest antioxidant value of all the natural foods in the world! These antioxidants protect the body from ageing and disease by neutralising free radicals before they damage the structures of your skin that keep it tight and youthful looking. The fibre in the dates helps to keep your blood vessels healthy so that it can provide your skin with these nourishing antioxidants along with oxygen and other nutrients.

Walnuts are wonderful. These little cerebral shaped nuts are funnily enough excellent for brain health! Also their protein content is excellent for stabilising blood sugar while their omega-3 fatty acids have an anti-inflammatory effect that can stop the causes of wrinkles before they start. The cytokinins in coconut regulate the cell growth, which minimises the ageing of skin cells, balances PH levels and keeps the connective tissues strong and hydrated.  A high fibre and manganese content assists in digestion and absorption of all these important nutrients mentioned.

YOU’LL NEED

– 1 cup fresh seedless ‘medjool’ dates

– 1/4 cup raw cacao (use Loving Earth – you can find this in most health food stores)

– 1 cup raw walnuts

– 1 cup of almonds or other nuts (hazelnuts are wicked) & / or seeds such as sesame, pumpkin, sunflower.

– 1 tspn cacao butter or coconut oil (melted)

Optional

– zest of lemon or orange, or

– scraped vanilla bean pod / pure essence, or

– spice – chai or cinnamon, and/or

– handful cacao nibs

TO ROLL balls in

One or any of the following:

– organic shredded coconut, cacao, chia seeds, sesame seeds, goji berries,

TO MAKE

Throw all these ingredients in to a food processor and whizz until mixture is like a dough. Roll mix into small balls, roll balls in the shredded in coconut and keep in the fridge until firm.

TIP & TRICKS

Have fun by mixing up the textures and flavours of your Glow Balls. Maybe add a bit of lemon rind to the mixture for a zesty twang of flavour. Or instead of rolling in coconut, maybe try cacao, chia seeds, sesame seeds or goji berries create a beautiful look on the platter & to feed your skin!

TO SERVE

Make up a platter with a variety balls or pop 1 or 2 onto a pretty little plate and serve with a cup of re-balance tea.

In Summer when with the warm weather we’re naturally outside and active more.

Our home juicing menu has taken a turn from our staple red juice (beet, carrot, apple, ginger celery) to green juice to invigorate our body for ‘get up & go and a healthy glow.’

The ingredients used to make a green smoothie are all light, and non starchy which makes them easy to digest giving you an instant dose of beautifying food. And because there is no waste in making a smoothie you are getting a massive does of active beauty nutrients to feed your beauty including fibre to keep your digestive system moving quickly to remove toxins and increase nutrient absorption. There is no other way to get such a vast serve of fruit & vegetables that are quick to eat and keep you full for longer.

Making a green smoothie can be fun because there is such a fast array of green fruit and vegetables available to use.

  • Start with green leaves (kale, spinach, lettuce,) | think Vitamin A for complexion + chlorophyll  
  • Add beauty minerals  rich vegetables (celery, cucumber, [avocad0], fennel) 
  • Add a ‘sweetner’ (pear or green apple -pineapple is gorgeous) for flavour, fibre + antioxidants
  • Pop in some Citrus for vitamin C – we love it for collagen production and alkalising the body 
  • Toss in ‘active flavours’ for depth & fragrance – ginger, mint, parsley, fresh turmeric 
  • Liquify with water, ice, coconut water (for a sweeter, more fragrant style), green tea (antioxidants) or almond milk (to increase skin moisturising essential fatty acids and protein). 
  • You can always add ‘boosters’ such as flax seed oil, probiotics (the simplest is natural yoghurt), protein (an egg is great) or seeds such as pumpkin (zinc) or Chia (omega 3)

YOU’LL NEED
avocado – 1/2
kale – 3 leaves inc. stem
english spinach – 1 ‘root ‘with 6-8 leaves & stems
cucumber – 1/2 chopped in 4
celery – 1 stick  inc. leaves
parsley – 3 stems
mint – 2- 3 stalks with leaves
pears – 2 chopped inc seeds (no stem) or green apples
lemon – 1/2 with no rind + 1/4 strip rind
ginger – 1-2 thin slices
water – 1.5 cups (or coconut water or green tea + dash apple juice if you are inclined)
ice – 1 cup (needed for texture + flavour enhancement)
TO MAKE
Simply pop all ingredients in the Vitamix, turn on & increase speed to high. Blend for about a minute til smooth and creamy.
You may need to pulse the mix to begin with depending on what order ingredients went in or will need to use your tamper stick.
This recipe makes 3 good size jars so pop the spare/s ones in the fridge for the next day. They will last at least 2.

Beetroot and Pumpkin Dip

Roast Beetroot & Pumpkin Dip – eat your antioxidants!

BEAUTY BOOST
So much beauty in colour! The vibrant purple flesh of beetroot is full of antioxidants and minerals that will look after your skin both inside and out. The minerals iron, potassium and zinc detoxify by creating healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen to skin cells for regeneration, repair and renewal. The antioxidants fight against inflammation which treats puffy and red complexions. Pumpkin’s bright orange colour is a sign that this veggie is loaded with beta-carotene. This plant carotenoid gets converted to vitamin A and acts as a very powerful antioxidant to neutralise free radicals thereby helping to prevent wrinkles and keep your skin moist and looking youthful. And the omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E of walnuts are another moisturising, wrinkle-fighting beauty boost to your skin.

YOU’LL NEED
2-3  beetroots – remove leaves, leave skin on but get rid of those rough bits at the top and bottom

2 chunks or 1/3 butternut pumpkin –  chopped into cubes

2/3rd cup walnuts

1/3 – 1/2 cup olive oil

1-2 cloves of garlic

1/2 tbspn black mustard seeds

1/2 tspn cumin seeds

salt and pepper to season

TO MAKE

  1. Turn oven on 180C.
  2. Place beetroot and pumpkin on baking tray lined with  non-toxic baking paper, drizzle with some extra olive oil, toss and place into. Roast for an hour.
  3. Halfway through roasting the beetroot add the garlic, walnuts, black mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the tray.
  4. Remove tray from oven when beetroot & pumpkin has roasted and garlic, walnuts and seeds are lightly toasted.
  5. Leave to cool before removing most of skin from the pumpkin.
  6. Add all roasted and toasted ingredients to blender or food processor and whiz until creamy.
  7. Add oil to mixture and blend until desired texture of dip has been reached. Season.

TIP & TRICKS

Toasting the walnuts, mustard seeds and cumin seeds and roasting the garlic by popping them into the oven while the beets are baking develops the flavour of the ingredients and infuses the beetroot with a spiced, nutty, garlicky deliciousness!

TO SERVE
Simply serve with a colourful array of fresh veggies and a variety of crackers.

There is no guilt in eating a (chia seed) pudding, right? This nutritious and body-delicious recipe is so quick, easy and fail proof to make! 

BEAUTY BOOST

Chia seeds are one of nature’s superfoods and these little seeds have more than enough goodness packed inside them – 30% omega 3 + 23% protein – mind you they are incredibly light so you need to eat heaps. Omega-3 essential fatty acids are ideal for your brain and body – they help to reduce inflammation, fight against wrinkles by keeping skin cells hydrated (form a membrane) and can radically alleviate symptoms related to skin disorders like acne and psoriasis. Chia seeds also contain high amounts of calcium and phosphorus, both of which help to maintain bone and oral health. And, we love the high protein content to help build, grow, repair and rejuvenate the cells in skin, hair and nails.

Antioxidants are in abundance in the almond milk and raw cacao. The vitamin E in particular helps protect cells from free radical damage by protecting collagen and elastin structures. They also keep skin fats healthy which keeps skin moisturised and promotes a soft and glowing complexion. And even dates, the natural candy fruit, are just so nutritious being packed full of fibre to aid your digestion and absorption of all these fantastic vitamins and minerals.

YOU’LL NEED

(Multiply this recipe by number people you need to serve)

1 cup almond milk (store bought or homemade)

2-3 pitted dates (depending on how sweet you like it – dates are >60% sugar)

2-3 tablespoons raw cacao powder (depending on how chocolatey you like it!) note: I personally love the brand Loving Earth – you can find this in most health food stores

3 tblspn chia seeds

Spices eg  ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract or pinch of cinnamon or chai spices

TO MAKE

  1. Place the almond milk, dates, vanilla and cacao in blender until completely smooth.
  2. Pour chia seeds into medium bowl and add almond milk mixture. Stir immediately.
  3. Allow to sit for 10 minutes with intermittent stirring until it thickens…. and the Chia seeds remain in suspension.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for an hour. Add tasty toppings like cacao nibs, berries, shredded coconut, or chopped nuts.

TIP & TRICKS

  • Experiment with the taste and texture of the puddings! Vary the ratios of the dates, spices and cacao in the almond milk mixture and try an array of different and delicious toppings.
  • All you need to remember is 1 cup liquid = 3 tablespoons of Chia seeds and you can make anything! Eg for a vanilla pudding, omit the cocoa and dates and add 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup and  vanilla bean.

TO SERVE
Serve Chia seed pudding in individual pots with whatever garnish you wish: a sprinkling of berries looks gorgeous while nuts or toasted coconut add an awesome crunch to the pudding.
