BEAUTY BOOST

Bursting with antioxidants, this smoothie is created to provide your skin the dose it’s been looking for!  With this degree of free radical neutralising power, you can say goodbye to skin damage and hello to a glowing complexion.  Did you know there is even evidence suggesting our body’s production of antioxidants may decrease as we age?  Our antioxidant rich spring smoothie recipe is sure to do the trick!  Antioxidants help to destroy free radicals in our body which are unstable compounds.  Through reactions in the body, they can transfer electrons and leave behind new free radicals. They come from the suns UV rays, cigarette smoke, pollution, our own normal metabolism and toxins presents in pesticides and other household chemicals.  They damage cell function and its integrity which in turn leads to sagging, wrinkled skin, blemishes and a dull complexion. Antioxidants can help combat the damage by neutralising free radicals and stop them from damaging our skin! It’s like your very own anti-aging cream working inside your body. With ingredients bursting with antioxidants, such as cherries, spinach and cacao, this smoothie will leave you feeling young and energised, while helping to sustain bright, smooth skin.Antioxidant Rich Summer Smoothie Recipe

DIY Mask for Summer Spots

DIY Face Mask to lighten and blur sun spots

Summer is at its end, and if you’re like me and love to spend time outside, chances are a few extra sun spots have appeared and your existing ones may have darkened. Instead of spending thousands on painful, invasive laser treatments try our beautifully thin and light DIY face mask, specifically tailored to lighten and blur those sun spots.

Our DIY face mask combines apple cider vinegar, lemon and honey to help minimise the appearance of sun spots (and hyperpigmentation) whilst moisturising and nourishing the skin.

Apple cider vinegar helps to inhibit the production of melanin, the pigment in the skin that creates dark spots and helps them to appear lighter over time. It’s also a great natural option for those who suffer from breaks outs as it is a natural source of Alpha Hydroxy Acids [a mild acid used in many face creams] which helps to remove dead skin cells and balance the PH levels of the skin. It is also a natural antibacterial.

Apple cider vinegar can trigger irritation for those with sensitive skin so we recommend doing a patch test first.

Lemons are a fantastic skin lightener as they are packed full of  antioxidants which are proven to reduce the amount of melanin that is produced when applied to your skin and used regularly. The citric acid also works as a natural exfoliant to break and remove dead skin skills which is essential to a lighter, glowing complexion.

And finally, the skin superfood: honey. Honey draws moisture into the skin, therefore acting as an emollient in skin lightening, meaning it helps to soothe and soften the skin as the lemon and apple cider vinegar work their magic.

For best results, do this mask once a week and incorporate Lee Holmes’ beauty trick into your daily routine: dabbing a mixture of fresh lemon and apple cider vinegar to your dark spots each night before bed. We also recommend you invest in a natural sunscreen or tinted moisturiser with SPF to prevent any further damage.

HOW TO

1. Combine 1/2- 1 tablespoons of raw organic honey and 1-2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar [ensure that is has ‘the mother’]

[TIP: ensure the honey is a room temperature before starting as it will be alot easier to mix and combine the ingredients]

2. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon

3. Stir well

4. Apply to a clean face and leave for 10-20 minutes

5. Rinse with warm water and finish with your favourite natural beauty balm or moisturiser

DIY Strawberry Face Scrub

For bright, glowing skin, it’s just as important to exfoliate as it is to moisturise. Without exfoliating, dead skin cells start to pile up on the skin’s surface leaving it looking dull, dry and ‘rough’. Try our super easy strawberry face scrub and let your skin shine!

Strawberries are a proven beauty enhancers, containing vitamin C, salicylic acid, antioxidants and natural exfoliating properties to brighten skin and clear complexion. Salicylic acid removes dead cells from the face whilst vitamin C works to improve collagen production.

Strawberries also contain alpha-hydroxy acids, which, when applied to the skin, help to break up the outer layer of dead skin.

By adding a small squeeze of lemon to the mix you’ll get an extra kick of vitamin C and antioxidants. Lemon also contains a natural acid which helps remove the dead layer of skin from the face while the sweet almond oil in this recipe will moisturise, nourish the ‘new’ skin cells.

This recipe is safe for those who suffer from acne as both lemon and strawberries are both great natural disinfectants and help to heal up blemishes, sores, acne scars, and skin rashes.

HOW TO

1. Finely mash with a fork or puree three to four fresh, preferably organic, strawberries [with the tops cut off]

2. Add in a small squeeze of fresh lemon

3. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar and about two teaspoons of sweet almond oil

4. Stir well.

5.  Gently massage into clean skin [I cleansed my skin and removed all make up first] and wash off with warm water. Follow with your preferred moisturiser or try one of our DIY face masks if your skin is particularly dry.

Relax and Enjoy

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Store in an air tight container in the fridge but do not keep for longer than a day or two.

PURPLE PASSION JUICE | a perfect start

[Recipe] Makes 2-4 |   10mins wo-to-go (inc cleaning up!)

If you find it really hard to get your daily dose of nutrient rich vegetables then drinking juice is a fab-U-lous way. And, if you have the time to ‘shop fresh’ regularly and/or have the space to store your goodies in the fridge then DYI, Alternatively drop by your local juice bar for a ‘made-on-the-spot’. BEAUTY BOOST: Beetroot’s deep red colour is thanks to its high level of anthocyanins – potent antioxidants that fight inflammation – a natural process that results in a red, puffy complexion. They do it by neutralising enzymes that destroy connective tissue and by repairing proteins in blood vessel walls. The orange colour in carrots is what makes it a wrinkle-fighting food as the carotenoid antioxidants protect against free radicals that damage the proteins & lipids in our skin cells. Apples contain the antioxidant group flavonoids, in particular  quercetin battles free radicals to prevent them from damaging your skin. Celery is rich in silica, a mineral that is important to skin’s tone & firmess. The juice is a good source of Vitamin C, another nutrient known to give you a ‘natural facelift’ by working with collegen – your skins natural scaffolding, it also contains fibre, essential for the removal of waste and toxins from your body + water to hydrate and plump your cells resulting in clearer, smoother, glowing skin.

QUICK ROAST MINI TOMATOES | brimming with beauty

[recipe] Serves 4 | 10 or 60mins go-to-wo

What makes this recipe so fabulous is that you don’t have to do a thing and it looks and taste beautiful…..not to mention tomatoes skin-loving beauty. Simply toss a punnet of tomatoes in olive oil, fresh herbs, season and bake! So, so pretty. Serve with a ‘grilled’ piece of fish or meat or eggy tart.

BEAUTY BOOST: Tomatoes contain Lycopene, a powerful anti-oxidant.  This free radical scavenger is particularly effective in skin-tissue because it is fat-soluble –  reducing skin cell damage means preventing wrinkles. Adding olive oil to is a great way to increase lycopene’s absorption as it is bound to the dietary fibre and what’s more it’s made more bio-available if cooked! Needless to say tomatoes containVitamin C  – another fabulous antioxidant that is essential for the production of collagen – think of it as glue to keep your skin from collapsing and forming wrinkles and sagging. And Lycopene has been found to block UV light that causes your skin to produce free radicals, eating them won’t protect you from direct light as it only has a SPF of 3 but it’s enough to reduce the effects of indirect sunlight. Start adding tomatoes to your daily eating routing for a more youthful, radiant complexion!
